The Cardiff Junior and Cadet Open took place on Saturday 4th October at St.Mellons Table Tennis Club. This was the first Welsh ranking competition of the season which saw a very strong entry. Players travelled from all over Wales, Ireland and England to do battle.
It was St.Mellons TTC boys who took a clean sweep in all three of the boys categories.

Local boy Joshua Stacey showed the reason why he is the number 1 cadet in Wales, by winning the Cadet Open beating James Kelly of Ireland 3-1 in a great final. Joseph Roberts lost 3-2 to James Kelly in the semi finals.

Eleven year old Joseph Roberts made it two out of two for St.Mellons TTC  by winning the Under 13's Open without dropping a set. He beat England's Stanley Shilton in the semi finals, then went onto win the final against another English opponent Louis Price to secure the title.

The clean sweep was completed by Ryan Oyler who won the Junior Open for the second year in a row, beating rival Chris Griffiths on Rhondda TTC 3-2 in an action packed final which saw a very high level of table tennis played by both players.

Lara Whitton who plays for St.Mellons TTC 'C' in the Junior Team Championships of Wales, caused the upset of the day beating Jamie Lee Harley in the final of the Girls Cadet Open.

Lauren Stacey finished runner up in the Under 13's Girls Open, losing out to Beth Richards of Rhondda TTC 3-2. Lara Whitton finished 3rd.
