Top Players In Wales

The latest welsh rankings are now out for December 2014, these rankings end a successful year for the players of St.Mellons Table Tennis Club. Three players from the club end the year ranked at Number 1 in Wales at their age categories.

Cardiff & District Table Tennis League


After 8 matches St.Mellons Table Tennis Club find themselves in joint 2nd position in the WIS Division of the Cardiff and District Table Tennis League. Sitting only 7 points of the top team at the half way point of the season. 

The team is made up of junior players, Joshua Stacey (14), Joseph Roberts (11), Huw Standen (16), Macauley Morgan (16), Ryan Oyler (17) accompanied by Senior players Steve Eades, Zana Rahim and Wiktor Dzwonkowski. The team will be looking to push on in the second half of the season and try and push to take the title.

Steve Eades currently stands at the top of the players averages with Joshua Stacey a close 2nd. 
Ryan Oyler and Wiktor Dzwonkowski are currently unbeaten in the season.

Oyler Takes Blaenau Gwent Junior Title

In the second Welsh ranking tournament of the season, the Blaenau Gwent Junior and Cadet Open was held in Abertillery Table Tennis Club on Sunday 30th November 2014.

It was St.Mellons star Ryan Oyler who took his second welsh ranking title of the season. In a repeat final of the Cardiff Junior Open, Ryan took on his long term welsh team mate and domestic rival Chris Griffiths. This time he came away with a more convincing victory, winning 3-0 to secure the title and cement his Welsh Number 1 ranking to end 2014. Ryan Oyler beat local boy Joshua Stacey in the Junior semi finals 3-1.


Joshua Stacey couldn't repeat the form he showed at the Cardiff Junior and Cadet Open and lost 3-1 in the final of the Cadets in the Blaenau Gwent Cadet Open to Cade Short of Bridgend.
Cade Short also saw off 11 year old star Joseph Roberts in the semi finals.

Joshua Stacey will also end the 2014 year being the Number 1 Cadet in Wales. Joseph Roberts also ends the year of 2014 being Number 1 in the Under 13's category.

St.Mellons TTC are looking forward to 2015 and continuing in their progress to develop top players in Wales.

Butterfly Senior Team Championships Of Wales

On the weekend, two young teams represented the club at the Butterfly Senior Team Championships of Wales held at Sport Wales National Centre.

Welsh Junior No 1 Ryan Oyler, came away winning 10 out of 12 matches and helped his young team mates Joshua Stacey (14) and Huw Standen (16) to end the weekend in 4th spot in the Premier Division.

St.Mellons TTC B ended the weekend on a high, finishing in 2nd place in Division 1, losing only 1 match all weekend to Swansea A. The team of Joshua Morgan, Paymen Molleai and 11 year old Joseph Roberts all played well and pulled off some great wins during the weekend to help place them high up in the league.

A great weekend overall for the club!

The final weekend of the Butterfly Senior Team Championships is Saturday 28th February and Sunday 1st March 2015!

Boys Take A Clean Sweep at Cardiff Junior and Cadet Open

The Cardiff Junior and Cadet Open took place on Saturday 4th October at St.Mellons Table Tennis Club. This was the first Welsh ranking competition of the season which saw a very strong entry. Players travelled from all over Wales, Ireland and England to do battle.
It was St.Mellons TTC boys who took a clean sweep in all three of the boys categories.

Local boy Joshua Stacey showed the reason why he is the number 1 cadet in Wales, by winning the Cadet Open beating James Kelly of Ireland 3-1 in a great final. Joseph Roberts lost 3-2 to James Kelly in the semi finals.





Eleven year old Joseph Roberts made it two out of two for St.Mellons TTC  by winning the Under 13's Open without dropping a set. He beat England's Stanley Shilton in the semi finals, then went onto win the final against another English opponent Louis Price to secure the title.




The clean sweep was completed by Ryan Oyler who won the Junior Open for the second year in a row, beating rival Chris Griffiths on Rhondda TTC 3-2 in an action packed final which saw a very high level of table tennis played by both players.



Lara Whitton who plays for St.Mellons TTC 'C' in the Junior Team Championships of Wales, caused the upset of the day beating Jamie Lee Harley in the final of the Girls Cadet Open. 





Lauren Stacey finished runner up in the Under 13's Girls Open, losing out to Beth Richards of Rhondda TTC 3-2. Lara Whitton finished 3rd.

The Junior girls was won by Beth Roberts of Ael Y Bryn TTC.

St.Mellons TTC - Top Junior Team Championships Of Wales

This weekend saw the first rounds of the Butterfly Junior Team Championships of Wales. This brought all the best players from across Wales together, to represent their clubs and battle it out to become Team Champions of Wales, This event was held at Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff

This season St.Mellons TTC have 3 Junior teams entered into the Team Championships.

St.Mellons TTC A, with the team of Ryan Oyler, Joshua Stacey and Marc Castro won all 6 of their matches to sit top of the Premier Junior Division ahead of last seasons winners Rhondda TTC, after securing a 3-2 win over their rivals in a great encounter which was the match of the day.

St.Mellons TTC B are also in the Premier Division but finished in 4th position after the first weekend, A young team of 11 year old Joseph Roberts and Jack ODuffy also 11 years old, where lead by team captain Huw Standen. They all played very well to win 3 our of 6 team matches. Macauley Morgan will be in action for the next weekend in January as he was out this weekend with an injury. He will be looking to help the B team climb the table and finish in a higher spot next time around.

A young team of girls made up St.Mellons TTC C who finished in 2nd place in Division 2. The young team of Lauren Stacey, Lara Whitton and Grace Clement all did fantastic to win 4 out of 6 matches. The young team of girls, with an average age of 10 will be looking to go one better come the final weekend of matches n January.
